For years, Alkanoids has been pioneering the integration of Augmented Reality into the publishing world. We see the printed page not as a limit, but as a launchpad. By merging traditional editorial design with high-end motion graphics and 3D interactivity, we have transformed magazines, books, and newspapers into hybrid storytelling devices.
From animated covers to interactive infographics, this collection showcases our journey in redefining how readers consume content. We don’t just add technology to paper; we add life.
Powered by Aria Platform We leverage our proprietary technology, Aria, to guarantee a seamless and high-quality user experience. Having full control over the platform means we offer stability, speed, and no third-party limitations.
Ad-Hoc Content Creation We don’t do templates. Every AR experience is crafted from scratch. We design custom motion graphics and 3D assets that align perfectly with your brand identity and editorial style.
Immersive Storytelling We turn passive reading into active exploration. By adding a digital layer to physical print, we extend the narrative depth of every article, cover, or advertisement.
What happens when code meets paper? We partnered with the Berlin-based publisher Vetro Editions to power a revolutionary series of art books. Using our Aria Platform, we brought the complex world of Generative Art and AI to life. These aren’t just books; they are portable galleries. Readers can scan the pages to see code execute in real-time, watch pen-plotters draw, and witness artificial flora bloom, bridging the gap between static print and algorithmic motion.
A curated journey through generative art. Scanning the pages reveals the underlying code’s process, allowing the artworks to flow and evolve in real-time directly on the paper.
A tribute to drawing machines. AR brings the plotters to life, showing the hypnotic mechanical movement and the invisible pen strokes behind every geometric artwork.
An atlas of AI-generated flora. Through our app, strange digital flowers bloom and breathe on the page, blurring the line between organic nature and algorithmic code.
The Cinematic Brochure
Sometimes, a static image isn’t enough to convey the driving experience. For DS Automobiles, we turned a concise printed brochure into a multimedia player. By leveraging our Aria App, we embedded existing high-quality brand videos directly onto the paper. Users could simply scan the pages to unlock dynamic content, transforming a traditional catalog into an engaging, moving showcase of the car’s features without the need for extra printing costs.
The Show on the Page
For the launch of Italia’s Got Talent, we bridged the gap between print and broadcast. By embedding the official promo video directly into major national magazines like Donna Moderna and TV Sorrisi e Canzoni, we allowed readers to experience the show’s trailer instantly. This integration transformed standard print advertising into an engaging video channel, catching the audience exactly where they were reading.

A great book cover grabs attention; an AR cover holds it. This project serves as a prime example of what’s possible for the publishing industry.
Capturing the magic of Marco Balich’s Olympic ceremonies required more than text. For Gentleman magazine, we embedded the Balich Wonder Studio showreel directly into the printed interview. Scanning the page allowed readers to watch his monumental events instantly, turning a standard article into a dynamic video portfolio.
The Living Covers
Imagine looking at a magazine cover and having the person on it look back and say hello. For the monthly independent magazine Edera, our Aria platform became the bridge for direct communication. We transformed static portraits into personal video messages. Personalities like Francesca Michielin, Diana Del Bufalo, Wikipedro, and Benvenuti didn’t just pose for a photo; they came to life to greet readers or share a reflection. This feature turned every issue into an exclusive, interactive encounter, deepening the bond between the audience and the cover star.
Milan’s Fuorisalone is a frenetic experience, and standing out is a challenge. For the Isola Design District, we upgraded the traditional pocket guide into a smart exploration tool. Using our Aria platform, we allowed every listed exhibitor to associate a video with their printed entry. This transformed a simple paper map into a rich preview mechanism. Visitors could scan the guide to see installations in motion before even arriving, helping them navigate the district and choose their next stop with greater engagement.
